When you love your job, it’s not work – Hi Gloss Boat Restoration of Gilford brings the classic old wooden boats back to life

Kevin Buttermore, who purchased Hi Gloss Boat Restoration three years ago, says that he became fascinated with wooden boats when he was worked a paper boy delivering newspaper to the business when it was located on Gold Street in Lakeport in the early 1990s.
“I’d go in and talk to the owner, Scott Hayes, for hours and I got around to asking him for a job when I was 13 or 14 years old,” said Buttermore, who worked there several years while in high school and was featured in a newspaper article in 1995 about a boat that he personally restored.
After graduating from Laconia High School in 1999, he worked in a number of retail jobs and was handling mortgages in 2007 when the company he worked for went under.
“My wife and I were looking at moving back to South Carolina when I stopped in to see Scott about doing some work for him. He hired me as a temporary worker, and after that I never looked back. I was working with my hands and it was the most satisfying job I ever had,” said Buttermore.

Austin crowned the nation’s best state capital in awesome new study

It breaks down like this. Austin ranks No. 2 for economic well-being. A low unemployment rate (2.9 percent) coupled with high income growth and population growth make Austin’s economy almost unbeatable.

We rank fifth for education and health. The quality of local schools and the high number of Austinites with a bachelor’s degree earn Austin stellar marks. However, only 80.3 percent of residents have health insurance, pointing to an area for improvement.

Despite growing concerns on a local level, Austin ranks No. 11 for affordability among state capitals, as we have the fifth highest median household income ($57,517). Surprisingly, our worst ranking is for quality of life, No. 18. Traffic, commute times, and long work hours are to blame.

Still, life in this capital city is good — the best in the nation, in fact.

Monday, February 22nd, was National Margarita Day, so we thought we’d share our five favorite winter margarita recipes along with some fête-chic ways to serve them at your next fiesta. While stories abound about who actually invented the margarita, we’re chalking it up to a salty Texas socialite named Margarita Sames who created it in 1948 at her Acapulco villa. Regardless of who kicked things off, with Americans consuming an average of 185,000 margaritas per hour (source: Brown Forman), we don’t need a straw poll to tell us that it’s one of the most ordered cocktails in the country. It may still be winter, but these five tantalizing takes on the sweet and sour classic are sure to get things muy caliente. And don’t forget to add some spice to how you serve your margaritas — they look as chic in a Champagne coupe or tumbler as they do in a traditional margarita glass.
